This high capacity renewable dehumidifier has been designed to adsorb moisture from small, enclosed areas. It will help protect clothes and valuables from the damaging effects of mold/mildew and moisture rot. It is 100% renewable and needs no power to operate. Just hang the Eva-dry unit in a closet, or you can place it in other small, enclosed spaces, and it will start to adsorb moisture. There are no batteries required or cords to plug in, the unit works without power. There is an indicator window with special "moisture meter crystals" that change from blue (when dry) to pink (when wet) to indicate when the unit needs to be "renewed". The unit will adsorb approximately 8-10 ounces of moisture (depending on humidity levels this should take between 6 - 8 weeks). Once the moisture has been adsorbed it cannot leak or spill. This unit uses a specialized, engineered, crystallized silica gel that is odorless, non-toxic and completely safe. When the indicator crystals turn pink it is time to "re-new" the unit. Simply remove the unit from where it is adsorbing moisture and plug it into a power outlet or power strip in a well ventilated area (bathroom with extraction fan, garage, outside, etc.). There is a built-in heater that will warm the crystals allowing them to expand and release the moisture as water vapor into the outside air. It takes about 12-14 hours to completely re-new the unit. When it is completely renewed the indicator crystals will change back to blue. The unit is brand new again and ready to adsorb another 8-10 ounces of moisture.The crystals will remain active for 10 years and we offer a 5 year limited manufactures warranty on all EDV500 units.

I just hang outside our guinea pig cage and take the excess moisture very effectively keep their food and cage to be wet before. It takes several weeks to fully absorb moisture, but the display will go from blue to light pink and the device is very difficult. EDP-500 EDP big improvement over 300 predominantly supporters of Mr. Smith, I have 5 of these Eva-Dry desiccant dehumidifiers rechargeable. Here in humid NC, with the larger 4x8 in the cabinet works well. Take some time, but some measurable difference of 10-15%, or by measuring the humidity after a few days. Need once-weekly recharge, where at even the air, humidity is relative humidity over 50% of most days of much IT-500 has a hook that make much better fit through the holes in the Eva-Dry EDV-500 , a function that is not very well documented! Also, there are occasional specials: recently, a 2 for 1 sale on the IT-500 with free shipping. Only reason not to give this product is a 5-star, that as mentioned in other posts, the process of charging of the unit is very hot and it is not always good at sitting in a decision without support. I also had a decline in the unit, and had the luck of the case remained intact, but the small grains could be a real mess when the machine broke! But the real mess this thing handles to prevent drying out collecting chemicals, water and drying dissolved. If this is reversed, it is a mess wet, so avoid the EDP-EDV 500-300 and this type of disorder. PS - where in the world that someone had the idea to label this "wireless" in the description of the Amazon? It seems pretty dry to keep the closet. Two problems. Problem 1. When I renewed one of the units, you fall without my support to something else. This could be dangerous as it warms. They are able to renew a power bar, but could be more problematic for a regular intake is more space between the exit and the floor. Problem 2. My boyfriend that I forgot to mention the unit went into my office like a bull in a china shop and fell and broke his hook (glass beads everywhere) - I had to buy a new one, after only a month. There should be a safer way to secure the unit to hang in the closet or maybe the customers should choose to put on the floor.
