Should be changed frequently, we bought our humidifiers two months ago and already have two filters. Although we change the water in our daily humidifier, the filter starts smell moldy very quickly. There also seems to break pretty quickly. I am satisfied with the Hamilton Beach humidifier, but wish that the filters lasted a bit longer. Just let go until the filter is dry and will last if your humidifier run after the tank is empty until the filter is dry dry DRY (ie, the humidity dropped down), the filter will last and last. If you do not dry, but keep filling the tank with water, the filter gets really really fast Skanky. I learned the hard way, until I read the reviews on this site. Drove it for over a month now with no odor. Filters are great. I love this humidifier because I can pop the parts in the dishwasher. I can pure light. Never found another humidifier that you can do this. Who cares about the humidistat works exactly? It tells me that if the humidity is high or low, and that's all that matters is really a disservice to close the tank tightly, but we consider that only closed as tight as possible. I never had a leak problem. They have tried many other classes, and this does the job better. Too bad they left off ... I wanted one for my parents for 87 years, since it is the easiest and best thing I've ever used. Mold grows easily, but it is a good humidifier just a warning for those of you who are like me and are not more careful guardian humidifier: the large filter mold grows easily. A previous reviewer noted that the filter should be moist, but in my experience, that is only growing mold. I had to take two filters for that reason. At this point, the ultrasonic humidifier changed because I have fear of using the cool mist before mold (especially with the dust fan) ..
