Humidifier wick replacement - inevitably necessary {Note: HWF100 BWF100 Bionaire Holmes &} are interchangeable, I bought a humidifier Bionaire that uses 2 of these locks. They are a necessary evil because the humidifier can not work without them. My humidifier (Bionaire BCM645 a) is basically a bowl of water glorified self-filling, with a pair of strands dangle in the water in the lower back of the camera ... wicks to absorb (to evacuate actually a vertical pipe with a fan to the place with a humidistat) to increase the water and the air humidifier sucks air through the body, cross out the locks to humidified air to blow ... is a simple design that works sorta. The problem is that mineral deposits in these glorified (and expensive) sponges, and their ability to wick up water rapidly lose enough to keep the evaporation ... The result is that they are dehydrated and crisp (and mildly stained with mold), and just stay wet on the part is submerged in the water now, here's the tedious part, and why I only gave this product 3 out of 5 stars. . . they unnecessarily vulnerable by design. The manufacturer wants you to keep buying new reguloarly fungi, such as inkjet printer manufacturers want you to continue selling expensive ink cartridges. Although I still quite soft water and use a carbon filter, these blades seem to only last me about 2 weeks a few, standard, before they lose their ability to absorb / wick moisture and / or fall apart. Maybe one day someone will more prolonged reusable cloth filter to replace, but as of this writing, do not seem to be any available ... because it is against the fiscal rules of the relevant manufacturer to produce and sell. You can save money in two ways: 1) Go shopping: You can save up to 50% by shopping around for the cheapest supplier, and make fun of any manufacturer's product loyalty involved How? Replacement filters for Holmes (HWF100) and Bionaire (BWF100) is functionally identical and interchangeable. They come six to a package (three couples). 2) Wash: These locks are very vulnerable - they resist drain when rinsing them, or you damage. Instead, fill a sink with water at body temperature, soak them for 5-10 minutes (for deposits soften and dissolve the parties), then gently press flat (while immersed) a few times. Drain (do not drain) and install. It should expand its activities in a week or less. Each subsequent rinsing produce only half the benefit anyway. best, you will be able to double its life. Conclusion: I really do not recommend these wicks ... but if your humidifier needs them, there is not much choice. However, if you follow the tips I listed above, you can save up to half the cost, and make them last as much as twice the time it is not easy to find - My Bionaire humidifier is not new.
